Areas of work
Stéphanie Vincent Lyk-Jensen works with impact measurement of public interventions. In numerous projects, she has investigated how health and socioeconomic outcomes are affected by various interventions for different population groups. Her research shows, for instance, that deployment can negatively affect soldiers’ mental health, and that military service affects men’s income. Moreover, she investigates motivations for volunteering for military deployment, sociodemographic differences among groups of gamblers, consequences of growing up with domestic violence and cross-sectoral collaboration between police and social services.
Stéphanie Vincent Lyk-Jensen is currently working as a researcher and project manager in the research project Danske Soldater på Mission (Danish soldiers on missions). The project is supported by Soldaterlegatet (the soldier scholarship) and financed by the Danish foundation Trygfonden [application ID 119562], the Novo Nordisk Foundation, and Aase and Ejnar Danielsen’s Foundation. This project investigates the personal costs for soldiers of being deployed to missions in areas of war and conflict. Life after one or more missions is studied in a number of economic, social and health areas, and the effects of taking part in missions are identified, i.e. what changes in the soldiers’ subsequent lives are brought about by the deployment.
Methods
Stéphanie Vincent Lyk-Jensen has competencies in quantitative methods and uses these to detect the effects of various interventions, using questionnaire surveys and registry data. Among the methods she uses in her research are instrumental variable, difference-in-differences and matching methods.
Background
Stéphanie Vincent Lyk-Jensen has a PhD in economics from Université d’Aix-Marseille II. She has used her theoretical and methodological background in various areas in the social and economic sectors.
Previously, she has been employed as senior researcher and programme manager in the area of impact measurement at SFI – The Danish National Centre for Social Research. She has also worked with transport economics, when she was a senior researcher at Technical University of Denmark (DTU), and with industrial economics, when she was a postdoc at University of Copenhagen. Furthermore, Stéphanie Vincent Lyk-Jensen has worked as a consultant for COWI A/S, in the areas of environmental and transport economics. Thus, she has extensive and varied experience from both academic and consultancy work.
