This report examines the relationship between growing up in a low-income family and conditions later in life. Firstly, the report reveals the number of children affected by low income over the past three decades by providing an overview of trends in the number and percentage of children in low-income households from 1980 to 2012. Secondly, the report examines how growing up in a low-income family correlates with income, education and labour market association later in life. Thirdly, the report examines the correlation between the disposable income of the family and the performance of their children in basic school. Finally, the report gives insight into the international research about the relationship between growing up in a low-income family and conditions later in life. The report uses register-based data from Statistics Denmark reported by various administrations, including the Central Customs and Tax Administration (SKAT) and the Danish Ministry of Education. The correlations examined in the report are based on information about the total populations examined.
